Privacy Policy

Effective May 18, 2026

The short version. Cozy Roomies does not collect, store on our servers, or share any of your personal data. We have no analytics, no advertising, no trackers, and no third-party SDKs. Everything you enter lives on your device. The rest of this policy is the long version of that same sentence.

1. What we collect

Nothing. Cozy Roomies does not require an account, an email address, a password, or any personal information to use. We do not collect identifiers, device fingerprints, location, contacts, photos, microphone, or any other category of personal data. Our Apple privacy disclosure (the "nutrition label" shown on the App Store listing) reflects this: Data Not Collected.

2. Where your data lives

Everything you enter in the app — rent splits, roommates, bills, settlements, settings — is stored locally on your device using Apple's standard on-device storage (UserDefaults). It never leaves your phone unless you explicitly turn on one of the optional features below.

3. iCloud Backup (optional)

Cozy Plus subscribers can enable iCloud Backup in Settings to keep a copy of their rent splits and app preferences in their own iCloud account. This uses Apple's CloudKit key-value store. We have no access to your iCloud and no visibility into what is backed up — the data flows directly between your device and Apple's servers, under your Apple ID. You can disable it at any time, and you control the data in iCloud the same way you control any other iCloud data via Apple's tools.

4. Roommate sharing / multi-device sync (optional)

Cozy Plus subscribers can invite roommates to share a household. When you do, your shared expenses, settlements, and roommate list are synchronized between participating devices using Apple's CKShare technology. As with iCloud Backup, this data lives in iCloud — under each participant's own Apple ID — not on any server we operate. We have no ability to read, intercept, or copy this data.

If you stop sharing, leave a household, or remove a participant, the shared CloudKit record is updated accordingly. Local copies of past data on each device remain on that device until the user deletes them.

5. Diagnostics

Cozy Roomies includes Apple's standard MetricKit framework, which writes crash and performance reports locally on your device. These reports stay on-device and are summarized into a diagnostic ring buffer that can help you troubleshoot sync issues. We do not transmit these diagnostics anywhere.

If you choose to use the "Email Logs to Support" feature in Settings, the app composes an email containing the recent diagnostic entries and pre-fills our support address as the recipient. The email is only sent if you tap Send in your mail app. We use the contents solely to help you debug the issue you reached out about.

6. In-app purchases

Cozy Plus subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. We never see your payment information. Apple provides us with anonymized aggregate information (e.g., "this many monthly subscriptions are active") and the entitlement state your device uses to unlock Plus features. We do not link this to any personally identifying information because we do not have any.

Apple's privacy policy governs how they handle your billing data; see Apple's privacy policy for details.

7. Third parties

Cozy Roomies has no third-party advertising networks, analytics SDKs, marketing trackers, crash reporters (other than Apple's own MetricKit), or other external services embedded in the app. We do not share data with anyone because we do not collect any data to share.

8. Children

Cozy Roomies is rated 4+ on the App Store and is suitable for all ages. Because we do not collect any personal information from any user, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 — or from anyone else.

9. Your rights

Because we do not collect your data, there is no data for us to provide, correct, or delete on request. To remove your local data, delete the app from your device — this removes everything stored in UserDefaults. To remove iCloud-backed data, sign in to your iCloud account at iCloud.com or in iOS Settings and manage your Cozy Roomies data there. To stop sharing a household, use the Roommate Sharing controls in the app's Settings screen.

10. Changes to this policy

If we ever change this policy, we will post the updated version on this page and update the effective date at the top. Material changes will be surfaced in-app. Because the app's privacy posture is structural ("we don't collect data"), substantive changes are not expected.
